Electricity plays a central role in achieving Europe's clean energy transition. Switching from the more CO2-intensive fossil fuels not only enables the large-scale decarbonisation of the electricity sector itself. The green electricity generated can also be used to replace fossil fuels in other energy-intensive sectors of the economy such as transport (e-mobility), buildings (electric heat pumps) or industry (e.g. to provide low and medium temperature heat). However, the increased demand for electricity, combined with a shift to a decentralised electricity system based on renewable energy, also requires significant changes to the existing electricity transmission infrastructure. Especially in countries where the areas with the greatest potential for renewable energy generation and the main centres of consumption are geographically separated, the major grid operators face the challenge of creating large new transmission lines across the country. VORWERK is actively working with European grid operators to create a reliable and efficient electricity transmission network for the future.
