Pipelineforum 2024 - Small steps towards the energy transition
The energy transition is a mammoth task that affects all areas of our society and economy. Accordingly, there is a great deal of attention for the ‘mega projects’ that are currently being pushed into realisation in the media. However, there are also a large number of smaller, local projects that are significantly advancing the energy transition through their direct emission savings or scientific findings.
At this year's Pipeline Forum on 21 November 2024, we would like to focus on precisely these smaller, local projects. The drivers of these projects have set themselves ambitious targets for reducing energy consumption or continuing to use or permanently and safely store the harmful emissions from conventional energy generation plants.
For our event, we have been able to attract many experts to give presentations on their individual projects. The focus will not only be on the challenges that arise when applying for funding or obtaining public and private licences. We also want to highlight the innovative technologies that are being used for the first time in these projects and demonstrate the impressive innovative power of smaller energy transition projects.
Unlike in previous years, we have decided to hold this year's Pipeline Forum on our own premises in Tostedt. This gives you the opportunity to join a guided tour of our depot and our new administration building after the lunch break. You will be able to see for yourself how the many pieces of the energy transition puzzle fit together at VORWERK and how the projects to realise the hydrogen core network are being implemented.
After and before the respective specialist presentations, the event will continue to offer the opportunity for an open and critical exchange of ideas.
Ms Karthausen and Mr Kleinfeldt will be happy to provide you with further information. If you would like to attend this year's Pipeline Forum, please register by phone or email by 11 November 2024.

Pipelineforum 2023 - Save the date
We are pleased to announce that we will be hosting the Pipeline Forum again this year! The event will take place on 09 November 2023 at the renowned Steigenberger Hotel in Hamburg.
The Pipeline Forum is a platform for experts from the pipeline industry to exchange views on current developments, challenges and innovative solutions. It offers a unique opportunity to expand your knowledge, make new contacts and work together on the future of the energy industry.
We want to make sure that the forum meets your expectations and covers your interests. Therefore, we welcome topic requests and suggestions from you. Which aspects of the industry are you particularly interested in? Which questions would you like to discuss or which approaches to solutions would you like to learn more about? Please let us know your suggestions so that we can put together a varied and informative programme for you. Please contact Stephanie Lübeck at sekretariat_at_friedrich-vorwerk.de.
Further information on dates, registration and the detailed programme will be published shortly. We look forward to a lively participation in this year's Pipeline Forum and to having exciting discussions and gaining new perspectives together with you.
Pipeline Forum 2022 - Europe in the Energy Crisis
Europe in the energy crisis - Current opportunities and challenges for the German energy infrastructure
Russia's unexpected war of aggression against Ukraine has triggered a profound and complex energy crisis in Europe. While many European countries have been able to rely on cheap and secure energy supplies from Russia for decades, the sudden loss of Russia as a reliable trading partner is fuelling massive supply fears and causing rapid price spirals on the international energy markets. Against the backdrop of the changed geopolitical situation, the Federal Republic of Germany is also critically reviewing its previous energy policy and adopting packages of measures whose speed and scope were unthinkable only a short time ago.
This year's expert presentations dealt in detail with the multi-layered effects of the current crisis on the German energy infrastructure. First and foremost, this includes the accelerated development of LNG import capacities, which places numerous additional demands on the existing natural gas network. On the other hand, an overview of the status of the major north-south power lines was given, and the question of what role hydrogen can play in the energy mix of the future was explored. The aim was to understand the complex consequences and interactions of the current energy policy on the German infrastructure and to evaluate them in the context of the ambitious climate goals.
For the Pipeline Forum 2022 we were once again able to attract expert speakers who approached the complex topic from different perspectives. After and especially during the presentations, the event also offered the opportunity for an open and critical exchange of ideas, as in previous years.
The response was very positive, so that we want to organise a pipeline forum again in 2023.
Pipelineforum 2021 - Clean Hydrogen
Clean Hydrogen - Regulatory Framework and Technological Necessities for the Expansion of the Clean Hydrogen Economy of the Future
Hydrogen is now seen as a key element in the sustainable decarbonisation of the European economy and thus in achieving the ambitious climate targets by 2050. Produced in a climate-neutral way, it offers enormous potential for sustainably reducing CO2 emissions in industry, transport and households. To accelerate the ramp-up of the European hydrogen economy, the EU Commission has therefore recently announced, as part of its hydrogen strategy, that it will invest up to €430 billion over the next 10 years.
This year's Pipeline Forum entitled "Clean Hydrogen - Regulatory Framework Conditions and Technological Necessities for the Expansion of the Clean Hydrogen Economy of the Future" attracted around 70 participants to the Radisson Blu Hotel in Hamburg on Thursday 11 November 2021. The guests included employees of various network operators such as OGE, Gascade Gastransport, Ontras Gastransport, EWE Netz, but also Hamburg utilities such as Gasnetz Hamburg, Wärme Hamburg and Stromnetz Hamburg. In addition, some of our suppliers also took the opportunity to find out about current developments in the industry.
After representatives of Vattenfall Europe and Gasnetz Hamburg presented their joint hydrogen project in the Port of Hamburg, which is to supply many industrial and logistics companies in the Port of Hamburg with green hydrogen by 2026, representatives of OGE and Ontras presented the development of hydrogen networks at the transport network level. The series of lectures was rounded off by our Mr Engelke with an overview of the possibilities of hydrogen production.
The response to all the lectures was very positive and the range of the lecture series was praised by many participants. Reason enough for us to plan another Pipeline Forum 2022 next year. If you think there are any interesting topics to be presented there, please make suggestions so that we can include them in the programme for 2022.
Pipeline Forum 2018 - Sector coupling
This year's Pipeline Forum took place on 22 November 2018 at the Steigenberger Hotel Hamburg.
The topic of the Pipeline Forum 2018 was "Sector coupling - alignment of different requirement profiles". Participants of the Pipeline Forum are welcome to receive the presentations as pdf files. Simply contact Ms Lübeck at 04182-1047 or sekretariat_at_friedrich-vorwerk.de.
We thank all speakers for the successful event and are already looking forward to the next Pipeline Forum in 2019!
Pipeline Forum 2017 - Major projects secure energy mix
About 75 interested guests gathered at this year's Pipeline Forum under the title "Major projects secure energy mix" at the Steigenberger Hotel Hamburg to learn about the status of various major projects.
After welcoming remarks by Heiner Schönecke, Member of the State Parliament, who reported on current events in Berlin and Hanover, various other energy transition projects were presented in addition to the EUGAL and ZEELINK natural gas infrastructure projects.
Mr Meyenborg from the Federal Network Agency then gave an overview of the development of the electricity networks and the expansion of the North-South connections in Germany. In addition, INEOS Phenol GmbH presented the project for the turnkey construction of the industrial wastewater pipeline at the Gladbeck site.
As every year, a large discussion round on the presented topics concluded the event.
